Over 20 Hours of Off-Campus work per week – Canada

Canada now allows international students to work more than 20 hours per week off-campus. This can be done while classes are in session to assist them in balancing their financial needs. This is only a temporary measure. This will be effective from November 15, 2022 to December 31, 2023.

Currently, Canada allows international students to work for up to 20 hours per week throughout their studies. However, during the summer and winter holidays, this limit is waived. This will also apply to people who have already submitted a study visa application on October 7, 2022.

This regulation will be relaxed for the time being with over a million employment openings. Canada has already handled over 4.52 lakh study visa applications since January. This is a 23 per cent increase over those processed last year.

Over one-third of the immigrants in Canada came from India in 2022. This regulation helps international students sustain themselves financially along with helping them focus on their studies. Canada has also relied heavily on international students as a source of permanent residents.

Moreover, a majority of international students want to stay in Canada after their studies as Permanent residents. Due to their prior living experience, international students integrate easily into Canada after obtaining a PR.

Post-graduation Work Permit

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada provides a Postgraduation Work Permit which permits them to work for any employer in Canada for three years. This will assist the temporary residents in obtaining permanent residency. This will be included in the revised Immigration Levels Plan 2023-2025.
